Jo is originally from Minneapolis, MN. She earned her bachelor’s degree in social work at the University of Mary in Bismarck, ND. She has worked in homeless services and with at-risk youth including youth in the juvenile justice system, teen parents, and sex trafficking survivors- many of whom were from Native American tribes in the rural midwestern United States.
Excited to serve in the role of County Equity VISTA, Jo hopes to learn all she can about policy and environmental justice, and work to involve, empower, and advocate for vulnerable populations who are affected the most by climate change. She is also excited to become immersed in Oahu’s rich culture and community, and learn about how local values affect the preservation and care of Hawaii’s natural resources.
