Punaluʻu Beach Project

The Hawaiʻi Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation Commission is working to address the impacts of sea level rise and costal erosion on Punaluʻu Beach Park, Oʻahu. Over the last decade, the shoreline has advanced to threaten both the beach park and Kamehameha Highway. With the help of the Department of Land and Natural Resources, the Department of Transportation, University of Hawaiʻi Sea Grant, and the partnership of the surrounding community, the Climate Commission is in the process of exploring the feasibility of nature-based solutions to restore and protect the beach and highway.
