2024 Climate Ready Corps

The Commission is eager to address the impacts of climate change and related policies on vulnerable populations and communities through its Climate Ready VISTA Corps!

As climate change exacerbates weather patterns and extreme weather events, it is important to equip those who do not have the resources to recover and thrive as a result of even relatively “minor” disasters and impacts, particularly vulnerable low-income and ALICE communities. At present, no coordinated statewide effort exists to identify and address the impacts of climate change and related policies on vulnerable populations and communities. The Commission is eager to address this issue through its Climate Ready Hawaiʻi VISTA Corps.

Through a grant from Americorps, AmeriCorps VISTA members will be in key offices at the state and county level to address climate readiness and equity issues statewide that will help our most vulnerable communities thrive and be resilient in the face of climate change induced events and impacts. The program will integrate the climate change work through data collection, outreach, education, and information dissemination. All VISTA members will also work together on projects that transcend departments and offices, under the direction of the Climate Change Commission’s staff.

Stay tuned for more updates to learn more about the work that is being done by this year’s Climate Ready Hawaiʻi VISTA Cohort as well as new positions as we all work together towards a more Climate Ready Hawaiʻi! (Will be available soon)
