Katherine McKenzie has worked in renewable energy, technology innovation, and economic development in Hawaiʻi for 20 years. Ms. McKenzie specializes in transportation electrification and integration of electric vehicles into the power grid to maximize clean energy performance and reduce emissions. Building on her professional engineering background, with a Bachelor’s and Master’s in materials engineering, she joined the Hawaiʻi Natural Energy Institute (HNEI) at the University of Hawaiʻi in 2012. As faculty with HNEI, she works with stakeholders across a broad range of renewable and enabling technologies, serves as Principal Investigator for HNEI’s Electrification of Transportation project, and has managed HNEI’s collaborative Electric Vehicle Transportation Center. Currently, she also supports the Hawaiʻi Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation Commission on the reduction of ground transportation emissions.
